Hank now Easy to Handle

“On my groomer’s recommendation, I approached Stacy about training my very loving but extremely submissive pound puppy to train as a therapy animal.  She was very knowledgeable and honest about what we could accomplish with her services and where to go if we chose to broaden our skill set. Starting with a behavior tune-up, Stacy used several creative techniques to help me keep my fur-baby focused and confident.  She even recommended several alternatives to the traditional toys that had both of us bored and frustrated. After, a few weeks, We then progressed to public places. Would highly recommend.“ Laura R., Beulaville,...

Behavioral Trainers and Groomers recommend Pawsitive Focus for Obedience

“Just met with Aaron Stewart today (5/29/09) of The Educated Dog. While talking to him he was going off on how “trainers” do all this crazy stuff & how he doesn’t trust them & he mentioned that there is only one person he’d refer to…but at the end of our conversation I said something about how I referred people to you & he said, ya Stacy-that’s the only person I trust to refer people to. So, I thought that spoke very highly of you :)” Heidi C. former owner of Aussie Pet Mobile West Plano,...
Mocha loves meeting kiddos

Mocha loves meeting kiddos

Check out Mocha’s video. Mocha is working toward her Canine Good Citizen Certification and her Therapy Dog Certification. One requirement is her being able to meet people, especially kids and men in a relaxed manner. Mocha so wanted to see these two little girls, but look at her focus and body language. What does it say? “I’m calm and come pet me please.” These girls did wonderful! The girl in the pink had been attacked by a dog while she was in a stroller. You can see here with direction, she’s confident in petting her and brings her friend along. Pawsitive Focus loves to see these PEACE of Mind moments. The moms were also taking pictures in amazement and appreciation. Dogs are great, especially when they are looking to their owners for guidance and support. What do you think? Are you ready to start your journey? Pawsitive Focus is here to help restore family connections and have fun with their dogs. Call to get started!...
Dewey does it best!

Dewey does it best!

“I rescued Dewey, a seven-year-old Bichon nine months ago. He is the sweetest little dog, usually calm with bouts of crazy obsessive ball playing, he loves children and other dogs, and is a great little companion. Dewey had anxiety and accidents when left at home, left for brief times in the car, and with guests approaching him, and would pull on the leash on walks. Stacy came to our house to help us. I think of her as the dog watcher. During training she would stand back and watch his reaction and make modifications. Stacy also had her work cut out training me to be the trainer…it looked so easy when she demonstrated! It was fun seeing our progress over the weeks and discovering some things that Dewey had learned in his past life that he just did instantly when asked! We are a work in progress and considering therapy dog training in the future.” Mary K., Camp Lejeune,...
Pawsitive Focus prepares you and your dog to take the CGC test. Here’s how!

Pawsitive Focus prepares you and your dog to take the CGC test. Here’s how!

Pawsitive Focus helps prepare you and your dog to be good citizens in the Jacksonville, NC area through the 10STOP Inhome Training Program. Call now 910.333.4161 to start planning this wonderful journey. Items on the Canine Good Citizen Test include: Test 1: Accepting a friendly stranger This test demonstrates that the dog will allow a friendly stranger to approach it and speak to the handler in a natural, everyday situation. The evaluator walks up to the dog and handler and greets the handler in a friendly manner, ignoring the dog. The evaluator and handler shake hands and exchange pleasantries. The dog must show no sign of resentment or shyness. Test 2: Sitting politely for petting This test demonstrates that the dog will allow a friendly stranger to touch it while it is out with its handler. With the dog sitting at the handler’s side, to begin the exercise, the evaluator pets the dog on the head and body. The handler may talk to his or her dog throughout the exercise. The dog may stand in place as it is petted. The dog must not show shyness or resentment. Test 3: Appearance and grooming This practical test demonstrates that the dog will welcome being groomed and examined and will permit someone, such as a veterinarian, groomer or friend of the owner, to do so. It also demonstrates the owner’s care, concern and sense of responsibility. The evaluator inspects the dog to determine if it is clean and groomed. The dog must appear to be in healthy condition (i.e., proper weight, clean, healthy and alert). The handler should supply the comb...
